Established in 1987, with a professional tournament, the field of Golf del Sur (27 holes)
has since been scene of several competitions of the highest international level. In the years 1989, 1992, 1993 and 1994 it received the Open de Tenerife, part of the Volvo PGA European Tour and in 1995 hosted the Shell Wonderful World of Golf tournament, when Ernie Els confronted Phil Mickelson.
Golf del Sur, originally designed by Pepe Gancedo and remodeled since 2005 by Manuel Piñero, became the first area of the Canary Islands with three courses to competition, which offers a fun track which caught the attention of its black volcanic sand bunkers, its large greens, wide paths and the difficulty of the two lakes that affect the 3,4 and 5 hole of Links Course.
It is noted for its difficulties, the hole 3, par 5 of 480 meters of the route Norte: its wide fairway is bordered on the right by an impressive ravine of rock, right by large rough sand and the entrance to the green requires a shot great precision to avoid the bunkers that surround it. Remarkable also the 2nd hole, par 3 of 193 meters of the route Sur, since the green is surrounded by a huge bunker of black sand, which gives a spectacular difficulty.
The wide fairways are surrounded by an abundance of native flora and are an oasis of 800,000 m2, along the Atlantic Ocean. Palm trees and giant cacti encircle the area to which special attention is devoted to the preservation of its flora and fauna. Golf del Sur is one of the fields of Spain by TÜV certified ISO 14001 environmental standard in the Golf and the Biosphere.
Among its services it has a golf school, a driving range, tennis courts, miniature golf, restaurant and bar, buggy bar, putting and chipping green, pro shop and locker rooms.
